In candle making, the first thing that you should do is to familiarize yourself with the materials needed for such. These are the wax and the wick. These two materials should always go together for one is useless without the other in terms of candle making. There are several kinds of candle wax that you can choose from: paraffin, soy, beeswax and gel.

The most commonly used wax is perhaps the paraffin wax. This is because of its affordability and availability. Paraffin comes from petroleum and is refined to produce this solid block of fuel. Though there are recent studies that connect long-time use of paraffin-based candles to certain diseases, experts made it clear that the occasional use of this type of candle should cause you no harm.

Soy wax is another type of candle wax. This is eco-friendly and also helps the soy wax industry as most of the soy being used is home-grown here in the USA. Soy wax is generated through the process of hydrogenating soybeans.
Next is beeswax. This type of wax is costly because of its quality and the nature of cultivating. But even though this costs you more dollars, its alluring scent is its main attraction.

Gel-based candles are also gaining popularity nowadays. The tip in choosing gel for your candles is to choose the higher density for a stronger scent. Gel is available in three densities.
