Gel Candles and Why To Make Them
By Pete A. B.
A lot of people have stepped away from paraffin candles and have gone to gel candles for a few reasons. The main reason is because one made from gel is more attractive. Another reason is because a gel lasts longer. If you take a 5 oz. paraffin candle and a 5 oz. gel candle. The gel will outlast the paraffin candle by at least three times longer. (I use three times longer to be on the safe side, but it’s not rare to see gel candle last more like 5 times longer)
Let’s get back to the attractive part of gel candles. Even with candle dye added, the candle is still translucent enough to let the light of the flame to pass through. So instead of just having the top of the candle (flame) giving off light. A gel candle gives off light from all sides and angles. Also you can do different things with gel to give off different effects. An example. When poured correctly, you can acquire bubbles in the candle. When the candle is lit the results from the light of the flame are amazing.
With gel, you have the ability to pretty much have a piece of art, that you can display while you burn it. There are the most common scenes, which are ocean scenes. Basically what that includes is a thin layer of sand, with a few sea shells and maybe a glass fish or two. Some gel candle makers do not add any dye colors to their “sea scape” gel candles. Others ad a hint of blue dye, so it appears to look more like water. Either way, when done right the results are amazing.
There are also many other designs or Scenarios that can be made with gel candles.
