Light the taper candle and when the wax starts to melt a little bit, tip it over and let the wax drip into the candle holder. Then, quickly place the candle into the holder. You don't have to worry about it catching fire or anything like that. I have also taken one of those bic sticks to the bottom of the taper and melted it just a bit so that when inserted into the holder, it's "stuck" in place with itself. But...burning one that smells like burnt rubber during a nascar party might work well, but as for the ones that smell like food--that would only make them hungry and I would have to cook, so I would stay away from them.
