Dye chips and blocks are cheap. Liquid dye is more expensive as an initial upfront investment. A 1 oz bottle is about $5, but 7 drops of dye will color a pound of wax to a medium intensity and will last longer than a little bag of chips or a block and is cheaper in the long run.
Aside from the contrainer, fragrance oil will be your most expensive item for a candle. A ounce of FO averages $2-$5. An ounce of FO will scent a pound of wax at a 6% scent load. (Remember, FO is measured by weight, not volume.) 16 oz of wax x 6% FO = .96 oz of FO.
I buy all of my candle making supplies online. Don’t buy supplies at Joann’s or Michael’s. They will rip you off on quality and price. Just Google “candle making supplies”.
